We are the Champions...

The last two weeks before the end of term were full of grand-finals. Kieran was selected in the Huon and Channel football team to play in the Southern School Sports Carnival at Pontville. They played teams from throughout the south. The Huon and Channel team were unbeaten throughout the carnival and won the grand final against Clarence in a tightly contested game. Kieran was the proud recipient of one of the two medals for the player of the carnival.

Wednesday night was grand-final night for the Huon Under 19 netball team. Harriett one of Jordan and Gabby's best friends was playing so our family thought we might get along to support the girls. Unfortunately despite their best efforts they were runners-up to a stronger team from Karana.

The next night was grand-final night for Jack Bartels' basketball team who were hoping to complete the perfect season having been unbeaten throughout the roster games. Again, it wasn't to be the night for the team we were supporting and the Grenadiers were beaten in an upset.

With Gabby's Netball grand-final scheduled for Saturday we were feeling a bit anxious about our "jinx" factor with grand-finals. By Thursday Gabby was staring to get really nervous. Their Huon team had been unbeaten all season and were due to come up against Cripps Waratah who they had only beaten by 1 goal to enable them to go straight to the Grand Final.

The day came and we made our way to Creek Road for the long awaited Netball final. Because of the terrible weather their game which had been scheduled to be played on an outdoor court had now been moved to a court indoors with limited seating. We were expecting a huge crowd so hurried to get a spot. The supporters poured in...most of them wearing the red, blue and white and the atmosphere was amazing. The girls came out strong and played great competitive netball keeping the crowd on the edge of their seats. With literally seconds to go we shot a goal to level the scores and the siren went signalling the end of the game. We now had to go to extra time which was 7 minutes one way and 7 minutes the other. The game see-sawed between the two teams with the crowd going crazy. With seconds to go, again, the ball was in our goal circle with Kate Spriggs shooting the last goal to put us one goal up at full time. The girls went crazy and so did the crowd. It was an amazing game and they did so well to be able to keep their composure under such a huge amount of pressure. The perfect season was complete!!

To finish off our grand-finals Brady's school basketball team played their final in a closely fought encounter against Calvin but, unfortunately were not able to finish the finals on a winning note. Next time boys!

To finish the winter sporting season we had Presentation night on Friday for Netball. Gabby was runner-up best and fairest which capped off a great season in her first year back playing netball for about 3 years. Then on Sunday it was Presentation day for Kieran's football team where he was announced as Best and Fairest and received his trophy. Well done!!
